For my project I am going to do a bio on a Tom Boyd who is a professor here at OU. The plan is to do some research on him, then do an interview with him, including some video and a photo or two. Also I am hoping to get a recording of one of his class lectures and I will include that in the project.
For my final project I am going to do a story on the upcoming Cheorkee Nation Principal Chief election. It will be more of a feature on the challenger to the current chief and what the challenger is looking to accomplish along with what he thinks are the failures of the current administration. I will conduct interviews with 3 or 4 other people to go along with the interview of the challenger.
I have two options that I haven't decided between yet.
First idea would be to cover the brand new OKC Barons hockey team. My vision for this story would be to cover the aspect of starting a new sports franchise in a city that doesn't have a rich tradition in that specific sport. I have a connection in the organization that would allow me to interview the owner, coach, players, employees and get every angle. I think it could be a pretty legit video.
Second idea would be to do a feature story on the OU men's club soccer team. I'm pretty sure they haven't lost a single game in 2 or 3 years, but still no one knows about them on campus.
Why do people feel the need to pump their dead loved ones full of chemicals, stick them in a box, and stand around looking at them for 1-4 days? I'm going to interview a couple of funeral directors in the Tulsa area (I have better connections up there) posing that question. I may also approach a few members of clergy / ordinary citizens, as well. The undertaking business is a huge industry, and I want to explore the cultural divide between people who have 'traditional' funeral services (viewing/chapel service/burial) and those who would rather have a cremation and be done with it.
Is there any way I can get a camera over the break-- or is that too long of a check-out period?
I'd like to do a feature on the OU rugby team. They're not sponsored by the university, but they've done really well their past couple of seasons, and I've got a contact on the team that would allow me to get some good info.
Since I haven't been in town for the past week, I've been really busy and haven't sat down and really thought about it. I don't just want to write down something on here just to have it written down. So I am going to take some time over the break to really think about what I would like to do my final project over and come up with a really great idea.
I want to do an investigative video piece on a topic that I have yet to fully nail down. Perhaps bathroom cleanliness. I'm looking to research and present a stereotypical scenario in a way that people haven't thought of before.
My final proposal is a faux-profile piece on the power of facial hair. I will have a friend be the anchor, who is interviewing 3 or 4 different guys with facial hair to see how they are different and whether they believe their facial hair has any effect on their personality. I will play all 3 or 4 characters by shaving my beard into different styles (mustache, chin strap, fu man chu, etc) and wearing hats, different clothes, etc. The video could be anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, but most likely closer to 5.
There are three different options I'm entertaining. All three would be video pieces with a 500-700 word excerpt. The first option is a piece on a local car show. The second is a piece on Marc Heitz Chevrolet (this would cover some of the flagship vehicles, how it operates and how it is as a business). The last one would be over Quick trip, a highly successful gas station chain originating in Tulsa. I'll let you know which I ultimately choose.
